Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about sharing expenses with VAKKA. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.

Is VAKKA free?
Yes! VAKKA is free to download and use for the everyday things: creating a group, adding what people spend, and seeing who owes who. There's an optional paid plan (Premium) with a few extra conveniences, but you never have to pay to keep your shared money organized.
Do my friends need the app to join a group?
No, not to get started. You can add people and track what they spent or owe even if they don't have VAKKA yet. When they want to see everything themselves, you just send them a link or let them scan a code — it's free, and you don't even need their phone number.
How does VAKKA know who owes whom?
You simply add what each person paid, and VAKKA does all the math for you. It always shows, in plain numbers, who should pay who — and the easiest way to settle up with the fewest payments. No calculators, no awkward arguments.
Can I split an expense unequally?
Yes. Real life isn't always 50/50 — maybe one person ordered the expensive dish, or covers a bigger share. VAKKA lets you split a cost equally, by exact amounts, by percentages, or give some people more and others less. The numbers always add up perfectly.
Can I use different currencies?
Yes. Each group has one currency, and VAKKA supports more than 30 currencies including dollars, euros, pounds, pesos and yen. Create separate groups when you need to track expenses in different currencies.
Can VAKKA scan receipts?
Yes, and it's a favourite. Instead of typing everything by hand, you snap a photo of the receipt and VAKKA reads the items and prices for you — even crumpled receipts or ones in another language. (This one comes with the Premium plan.)
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. Your information is private and protected: your account is kept safe with a secure login, your data is sent securely, and we never sell it to anyone. VAKKA is here to help you and your group — nothing else.
Does VAKKA work for roommates, not just trips?
Definitely. Lots of people use VAKKA at home with flatmates for things like rent, bills and groceries — not just holidays. You can keep a separate group for each part of your life: one for the flat, one for a trip, one for a night out.
What's included in VAKKA Premium?
Premium adds handy extras for people who use VAKKA a lot: scan receipts with a photo, move a debt from one group to another, send friendly payment reminders, see more detail about your spending, get a badge on your profile, and faster support. Everything essential stays free.
Do I need an internet connection?
You'll need internet to share updates so everyone in the group sees the same thing. VAKKA also keeps a copy of your latest info on your phone, so you can still open it and check things quickly even when your signal isn't great.
How do I split a receipt on a group trip?
Add receipt items manually, or scan a receipt with VAKKA Plus. Review the names, prices and quantities, then assign items to the people who shared them. VAKKA calculates the total from the items and keeps the group balances up to date.
How do I settle a group balance?
As you record shared expenses and payments, VAKKA calculates each member's net balance and suggests who should pay whom. When someone pays, record the settlement so the group history and balances stay accurate.
What currency should a VAKKA group use?
Choose one currency for each group, such as the currency used for a trip or household. If you need to track expenses in another currency, create a separate group for it.
